Well look at it this way: you had all the thrill of getting a deer in bow range, and shooting at it...without having to do all the work afterwards if you would have hit it. No tracking, no gutting, no dragging, no checking it out, no cutting it up or having to find a place to cut it up. 
The deer lives to see another day, and you get to relive the memory of it over and over again. While eating a ham sammich...cause it sure ain't tenderloin. Hahah
