I am out scouting a spot in Yanahli at the moment and I've found some birds roosting on a tree line. I frickin love that sound... Iam looking at em in the trees right now as I type. Got to run... I want to see if I can get some pics and maybe a video...

Lots of gobbles, tree yelps, what not, till they flew down and then I heard the occasional hen but it went pretty quiet after they were on the ground. I snuck around the big field to the tree line and walked quietly along through the trees for a while, looking and listening so as not to get busted, and then without warning, they flew out of the tall grass in the field and went over my head. 20 min later, they were yelping their heads off again. Hopefully they will stick around till season opens, and I won't be going back till opening morning so as not to accidentally get busted again.

While I hiked around the place, I noticed half of the fields were burned... who knows how that happened, but there was turkey sign in several places so I think it's a good spot.

Cool...thanks for the post. I do quite a bit of turkey hunting at yanahli. Sounds like they are still in big flocks. It typically gets better later in the season when they break up into smaller groups. I'm going to do a little scouting on Saturday myself. Patience is key when hunting up there.

Burnt places can be a turkey magnet!! Glad you got to see some where your thinking of hunting. It will get better as season gets closer...... I hope anyway.

Prescribed fire happened-one of the best, yet under utilized tools of habitat management. And yes, it's attractive as corn to turkeys, except legal.

Thanks for letting me know, I never would have guessed turkeys like burned areas, but that would explain all their droppings in the burned soy fields. I hope this spot doesn't get over crowded on opening morning. I'm not gonna say where it is.

Now for a couple pics of this morning.

DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY MORE DETAILS OR POST PICS ON THE LOCATION.

Trust me on this one. While it is understandable to want to share your discoveries, the more info you post, the more likelihood that others else will also give it a try there and thus mess you up.

Thanks for the advice. I already said I won't be telling where it is. And I won't be sharing any more details...and the pics don't give away much either (I hope).

Well I just discovered my posts were all still editable so I took out some of the detail... kept the pics, they don't give much away really.
