How can you get those ole tough toms to gobble? I hunt public land and it seems like everything has to be perfect for them to gobble whats the trick?

Last year I got on a bird on heavily hunted land and had to point the owl call directly at the bird or he would NOT gobble. I used a palmers hoot tube that day. Blowing the call in different directions will pay off awhole lot at times.

We probably hunt the same areas and I just let the woods wake up on their own. I do not carry any locator calls with me, other then a crow call, which I might use once a season. The mtn birds love to gobble, and gobble very well on their own in the morning.

I would caution the use of owl calls etc in our area as there are so many folks who ride ATV's calling all day long and the birds have grown accustomed to hearing it, and will go silent many times when a ragged owl hoot or crow call is heard. Just my experiences.

I carry a crow call but if they arent gobbling on their own, in the places I hunt, then I usually cant shock them either. So I just let them gobble on their own most all the time.

use something different like coyote howl, peacock, pileated woodpeker.just get creative on pressured birds you never know till you try.
