I don't blame the refs for Alabama's loss. I also understand a lot of Bama fans do blame the refs.
Blaming the refs sounds a lot like several Tennessee fans on here every other year.
Congrats to Tennessee on the hard fought win. It was fun game to be at and watch. Alabama had the chance to win and blew it. No excuses.
I hope Alabama puts the loss behind them and focuses on Miss St this weekend.

You will probably find a few ALABAMA fans that want to blame the game on the refs or the kicker. Bottom line is most ALABAMA fans know they lost the game due to self imposed penalties and mental errors. Period!

Just one opinion but I've long thought that many penalties occur because the opponent is perhaps a tiny bit better at their position.

A lineman gets out blocked, out quicked, enough times by a stronger opponent so feels he's gotta get off the snap just a tiny bit faster...flagged offsides or illegal procedure. A corner covering a faster received that can also jump higher gets beat on a route so holds or grabs a jersey...flag for interference. A player gets beat enough times and it starts to get in their head and mental errors like not lining up on the line of scrimmage, lining up offsides...flag. Just dumb penalties. Throw in a very hostile environment and yeah...a solid game plan comes off the rails manifested as "We're beating ourselves.".

15 penalties vs Texas and 17 vs the Vols. Might indeed be self-inflicted but the root cause may be because the guys they're lining up across from are just a tiny bit better.

Playing a better team had a major role in those penalties. Getting beat man to man on the line and the secondary was one of the primary reasons they had the mental errors and penalties. If you can't beat'em, then hold'em! 😆

And a hell of a Tennessee team, everyone seems to be leaving the most important reason out

Alabama lost due to being outplayed and out coached. Period.

I don't see why that is so hard to understand and swallow. I never was mad or looking for excuses for the L. I still say it was one of the best games I have ever saw, even though the team I pull for lost.

I think you have Us TN fans confused with someone else or your just trying to throw some shade aty us because your team lost. Tenneessee hasnt been close enough but one time (2015) in the last 15 years to even think the refs had an influence on the game :)

On paper bama should be better in almost every position. TN controlled the LOS on both offense and defense. That 6th ranked defense didnt have anything for Tns offense and Saban even admitted as much. I think the same can be said about alabamas offense vs Tn defense with the exception that TN front seven moved that oline. They just couldnt get to BY because he is a top tier football player. It makes me wonder what wouldve happened if BY didnt play. It couldve gotten ugly

2020 national championship, both unbeaten, Clemson v LSU. A virtually flawless LSU owned a confused and penalty-ridden Clemson the whole night winning 42-25 and the final score made it look way closer than it was. A Clemson season ticket holding, rose glasses wearing friend of mine who was in the stands texted me a few times during the game, "WTF...we look terrible. There's no way we're this bad of a team. We're beating ourselves."

My response was something along the lines of, "You're not that bad of a team...LSUs just that good." Burrow had 5 TDs and ran for another; Clemson secondary had NO ANSWER for those receivers/routes. THEY GOT WHIPPED. The O-line completely controlled the D, protected the QB, and LSU put up over 600yds of offense.

If TN executes like they did last weekend and avoids key injuries, the Vols are way better than a buuuuunch of teams this year. There's more teams that are gonna "beat themselves" down the schedule.

Great points! Here is some food for thought
