I saw a box of 3.5 inch Longbeard XR at Academy that had 2 oz. of shot and 1,200 FPS velocity.

then saw the same shell (length and shot size) with 2 1/8 oz. of shot with 1,050 FPS velocity.

I understand why, but my question is this.

Did LB XR always come in both those specs or did they add a new shell?

I guess what I am really asking is was the 1,200 or the 1,050 first? And has anyone done tests to see if there is a noticeable difference?

The 2 ounce/1200 fps version was the original 3.5" LB, and the one I would shoot if I were to ever buy them. For lead pellets, I will take the extra velocity over the additional 18-25 pellets (depending on if you shoot #4s, #5s, or #6s) every day of the week.

That is what I thought was the case. Why would they deplete the velocity for a little extra shot. Especially when they have advertised these shells to kill turkeys at long ranges and most people buy them for that reason. Seems to me you are begging to have a bunch of wounded birds running around.
