I have 3" #5 and 3.5"#4 and at 20 yds its like 1 large hole. at 40 it covers a 4x4 sheet. Moss berg 835 with 690 choke? Do I need to tighten up? Get a tighter choke. I don't understand it's so tight at 20 i worry about missing. at 40 I wonder what won't get hit and if it's deadly?

I was shooting a kicks GT
.675 with very good patterns out of mine. I also tried a .660 GT it was very tight and not as uniformed as I liked. I bought 2 weeks ago the Carlson Long Beard XR .683 for my 835.
It didn't shoot the 4's as good as my .675 GT but with 6's it picked up the #'s
I bought a box of 3" 6 magnum 1&7/8 oz and shot it this week 280 pellets in the 10 at 40. I killed this mornings Tom with that combo.
I haven't got to try the 5's yet.
My dad is using a .675 Indian Creek and a .680 GT and getting great patterns.
Here is mine I mentioned with the .683 XR

So at 20 you have one hole pretty much? My 40 yard is huge compared to that no where near that.

Yes at 20 it's baseball sized.
I've noticed some inconsistencies with the shells I assume due to the resin locking the shot together. At 40 I will have the tight pattern like shown above then ever now and then I'll have one that will be spread out over a large area. Still a good enough pattern to kill but I don't like having 30 or more pellets differences between shots.

I have an OLD 835 and I have never carried it nor have I ever bought a choke tube for it. Your pattern makes me want to get one for it. But man it's heavy compared to my 20 gauge.

I guess I'm just use to it but I sure do like my ole 835. It's never failed to go bang. My Dad got it for me 15 years ago.
