Who has had it? What were your initial symptoms? I pulled a lone star tick off my sons chest Sunday afternoon after our hunt. Today we kept him home because he was complaining of stomach pain/headache and didn't feel well enough for school. I took him to the Dr. and they prescribed Amoxicillin and just said watch his symptoms.
Any advice would be appreciated?

At the time we lived in rural MS, played outside all the time, and the tick attached in my navel. It was likely there awhile as it's more difficult to see a tick there than on other skin surfaces. I was hospitalized in the ICU and fluid had to me removed from my spine and neck multiple times a day. When I finally went home slept for days and when I woke up...I had stuttered speech. Before that I did not stutter.

I had spotted tick fever as a kid. It started with a terrible headache, I don't remember a stomach ache, but that doesn't mean nothing. I do remember having alcohol baths to cool off and having hallucinations. If I remember rite , I was flat on my back for 7 to 10 days. Never went to the hospital. My mother was a nurse and she took my blood and that's how we knew what it was. She got medicine for me but I don't know what it was. It was back in the early 80's. Before it was really heard about in this part of the country. I hope your son has a speedy recovery whatever he has.

Alchohol baths, a capful of bleach in the tub for any unseen ticks, and the hallucinations. Yes, I recall them. Even the ice packed baths to try and break fevers.

I was just a child and all I knew is the people around me were working to help me get better even if it hurt real bad. All from a bug in my bellybutton.

Watch him...anything goes sideways get him in.

I've had it twice. Both times I had flu like symptoms. Body aches, fever, chills and just felt plain rough. First time was worse. Main thing is to get it diagnosed quick and meds started.

I lived for about 8 years near Lyme, CT. Tons of ticks there. With bad stuff. I have had babeiosis and my wife had lyme. If you treat early, it is no big deal. If you don't treat early, it can kill you. We had doxycyclene that worked fine. So if your son is on antibiotics now, that should take care of the bacterial infections. Not sure if the alpha gal is treated the same way. Down here, it is more rocky mountain spotted, which is easier to diagnose.

Lone star transmits Alpha Gal also. Whatever it is. I hope he's able to recover from it quickly
I was Diagnosed with Alpha Gal about three years ago. It sucks. I dont have it as bad as some but any meat or mammal products and i start itching. Chicken, Turkey and fish are fine. I eat the occasional red meat and deal with the itching. I encourage ALL to spray your hunting clothes with Permethrin. I mix up my own batch.

I've had alpha gal the majority of my adult life. I go into anaphylactic shock, which is life threatening.

I can't recall what bacon tastes like, or a juicy steak.

any one who spends time outside and is afraid of anything other than ticks is wasting their time. Ticks are the scariest thing in the woods, period

My dad had Lyme Disease from a tick bite while running squirrel dogs in the middle of winter. He later developed Alzheimer's and died. He was never the same after getting Lyme. I believe there was a direct correlation, the last 8-10 years of his life were rough.

I turkey hunt almost every day, and also deer hunt often during early bow season. I always treat my clothes with permethrin and will not hunt otherwise.
Used to id find a tick or two during or after almost every hunt. Now I find maybe one a season. I don't know how that one gets through and the other hundreds dont, but it happens.

Im also always using my thermacell in the deer stand, usually spray with some sort of insect repellent (even though that supposedly doesn't repel ticks) always tuck my shirt in, and always tuck my pants in boots. I Always wear tall rubber boots or snake boots.

I do everything I can to prevent or stop it. Even when I stop for breaks in the woods I'll inspect myself.
After watching my dad go down hill, I am very cautious.
