Ok, I have one more camera and I want to bounce it around different places here in Louisville. On my land I don't have any problems with theft (knock on wood).

However, I don't know or trust these places yet. I want to make a basic cable lock. My camera has a spot for a 3/8 cable...but I'll need to crimp it after I run it through to make two loops to run the lock through.

Anyone know how I can do this, where to get the parts ect? Shouldn't be hard with the right tools but I've never done it before. Thanks in advance.

Yes the python is what you need ,or a bicycle lock will work
if you have a 3/8 pipe thru or lock hole.
Nothing is fool proof ...if they want it ..they will get it..like cutting the tree down ,if it is not real big.
The thing about a camera thief ..once they get started they must get the cam..they know they are on the camera.Destroying the cam is not going to get rid of the images on the memory card.

I had one that I built for a friend get destroyed this past week. He has alot of problem with ginsengers on his land this time of year. They just camp out and trash the place up, but had never stolen anything. This year they rode a 4 wheeler all over the woods, tearing down saplings, just going everywhere. They found the camera, it was locked with a Python so they just shot the crap out of it with a shotgun. Destroyed memory card of course. I hate people.

One of the best camera locks I have seen is one my brother in law makes for me and him. Take a piece of 1 1/2" tube steel and grind down the opposite corners to where it comes apart in an "L" shape then measure to your camera, cut and then weld back together. Then take chain and weld it to the side and just use a heavy duty lock and your done. If you don't have a welder, you can take the pieces to a welding shop and have them sopt the welds--it only takes a few minutes and they shouldn't charge much for it.

As far as crimping the cable. All you need to do is run the cable through the holes to designated loop length and hit the crimp with a hammer. Most are made out of aluminum and will smash down on the cable without to much pressure.

I like to use army ammunition canisters. I cut holes out for camera, place foam where needed to position camera then weld four 3 foot lengths of logging chain on each corner of steel ammo can. Place on tree and use large master lock on the chain and on the ammo can. Only use these in public thief dwelling hunting areas and have never had one stolen. Oh yeah, I also drill hole in back of ammo can and weld in a 3/8" lag screw. this allows you to screw canister in tree before locking chain.

X2 Thats how I did the winch cable when it broke. I took a 5 lb hammer and beat it flat on an anvil.
