I'm going to try my hand at making some pot calls. I've read several tutorials and watched several videos. Anyone else have a good "how to"? Also, where is a good place to buy supplies (slate, sound boards, etc.)

Anyone else make their own?

I've personally bought from Brookside and will vouch for their quality components. Their shipping is quick, prices are good, and I've not had any issues with something not being how it was described.

I buy all of mine from Brookside or Grassycreekcalls. They are both good and have great turn around. Brookside gets the majority of my business though. Just check prices on several sites.

I've been making my own for a few years and really enjoy it. It's a lot of trial and error. Biggest tip that I can give you is to get a notebook and make notes on everything that you do so that when you get them to sound right, you will have everything written down to duplicate it. You can't tell how it's going to sound until after it is glued up and put together.

A good place to start is 3.5" slate over a 3" glass soundboard. Get you some 4/4 or 5/4 cherry or walnut. Maple turns really well too. I like locust and osage best as striker pegs.
