My local Vols expert at work and I were talking earlier and I told him I would have just called Peyton first thing and offered him the job and been done with it.
He proceeded to say that Manning is why we were in this mess now.
I was like, HUH?

He said that Peyton was the one that first suggest to the AD that he hire Schiano.

That is the first I have heard of anything remotely close to that?

Any truth to it?

I heard on sports radio a few times driving back & fourth to work.

That Payton was in on the Schiano hiring from the get go & he signed off on the deal to be done.

They was callers calling in saying they have lost a little respect for Payton.

Manning has turned Haslam to either get his foot in the door politically or they have him tied on to become GM of the Browns.

Many speculate he is the reason why Tee hasnt gotten a call also. Manning is jelly of him because he did 2 things Manning never did. Beat UF and win the NC.

I heard the opposite, heard he was cussing

He supposedly had cussed Schiano out back when they were in the NFL because Schiano had told his players to blitz the victory formation. Had them to do it more than once and in multiple games. One of the games was against the Giants and it pissed Peyton off that they went for Elis knees.

Makes it that much more confusing why Peyton would be for a Schiano hire.

I read multiple sources that said neither Fulmer nor Manning were consulted about Schiano. It was reported that both Fulmer and Manning were questioned about their general opinions early on in the search, but then were left in the dark once Currie set his sights on Schiano.

This has been said by 2 different vol media

Manning is not going to say or do anything to disagree publicly with the UTAD. We'll never know what he says privately. He publicly supported Jones until Jones was not around to support.

Heard that Peyton and the Haslam's are the ones that signed off on the original deal. Also it was mention that Currie would not be fired because they were the ones that got him hired in the first place. Currie is their puppet.

Wow, saying Peyton did that is kinda like saying Dale Sr. wanted Winston out of nascar. :rotf:

That's what I thought. I remember seeing one of those games where the Bucs were losing, and they wanted to fight to the end. Thus, blitz the victory formation. Kinda childish, IMO.

Now that Manning and Schiano are no longer in the NFL, who knows if they are connected with the recent situation. Peyton probably isn't gonna do anything to ruffle feathers, be it for right or wrong.

Just google Jimmy Haslam Peyton Manning. Its no secret Jimmy is doing everything he can do to persuade Peyton to be the Browns GM.

Yep, I was shocked when the media pointed out that Peyton signed off on the deal.

They are now reporting that Herbstreit said he was in contact with Manning, and Peyton supported Currie the entire time.
Because that's who Haslam wanted.

Apparently Haslem bows down to them and does not go with the coach he wants when they call though.
