Mathews just launched their new 2011 lineup, and it looks to be another banner year! The Z7X will lead the charge as the "flagship" bow for 2011. A lot of similarities to the wildly popular Z7, but with a longer brace height for more forgiveness and shorter axle to axle for maneuverability.

They also launched a couple of new bows that fit more defined purposes. The Z7Magnum IBO's at a smokin 338 for the guy that's looking for a faster one cam, and the Z9 has an 8 3/4" brace height and tops out at 32" of draw length.

I may start researching bows again. My Katera is now close to 3 yrs. old. But I'm still having shoulder issues. My bow is now set at 60lbs., going to drop to around 55 and if that doesn't work, I'll probably quit bowhunting. Unless there's a compound that'll shoot in the 260fps or higher range at no more than 50lbs., but accomodate a 29" draw length.

You can pretty much get there with a Monster or a Hoyt with spiral cams.

I used to shoot 70lbs. I set up a new tournament bow about 18 months ago at 54lbs. Next hunting bow I get will be 60# max. After shooting so much at lower weight I've gotten accustomed to it :D

Yep the new Z7X looks to be my next bow for next year's season.I love the shorter axel to axel and the longer brace height.

If you can't get at least 6-10 years of use out of a bow, then either it wasn't made very well or you have other priorities than just the ability to kill deer. "Improvements" in bows year by year are marginal, at best. I absolutely LOVE my DXT, but there is not nerely enough difference between it and a a Z7 or Z7x to justify the hundreds of dollars and hours of tweaking to upgrade. If your goal is hunting, that time and money would be more effectively spent buying land access and scouting/hunting. I was using a 17 year old bow before I got the DXT in 2008, and I will probably use the DXT for about that long, too.

Now, if you just like toys, then the Z7 is a dandy one for sure, and by all means, get a Z7X! :D

I shot the Z7X last week and to be honest with you, I put one shot through it and looked at it and said to myself "THIS is going to be their flagship bow??".

Don't get me wrong, it is amazingly quiet and smooth AT THE SHOT. But smooth drawing it is NOT. It doesn't have the harsh "hump" that is associated with modern fast bow...it is more of a long drawn out kind of thing. With most bows you shoot now days, you have that initial aggressive build up leading into the "hump" then it lets off on the valley. The Xtreme doesn't have that...seems like you pull it and keep pulling it and then your at full draw with a very short valley. The one I shot was a 29" 60 pound and it felt more like a 70+ pound bow.

I've never been a fan of bows shorter than 33 inches A-A. My model bow would actually fall between 33 and 36 inches A-A. The original Z7 was the exception to that; I actually liked shooting that bow. I am interested in the Z7 Mag when the demo hits our local store I will be there to check it out.
