I just signed up and got my application approved after finding this site a few days ago. I am looking forward to continuing to read and see the awesome pictures.

I was wondering if anyone could make any suggestions on a good place to go first time turkey hunting on public land in Middle TN. I hunted the Cheatham WMA last deer season and didn't have any luck. I have never had any close relatives or family friends who hunted so I am just out there trying to learn on the fly and a location suggestion would hopefully be a good first start.

Thank you all and stay safe.

Cheatham is a good place but has a ton of hunting pressure
Cheatham Lake is good if you have a boat
But you might try and hook up with someone that has some private land that would be happy to drag you along. Dont be discouraged with Cheatham and the deer heard! They got hit hard during the EDH outbreak and still has not recovered Good Luck

Welcome to the site! You will probably learn a whole lot here like I did and I bagged my first bird on the 3rd trip on public land.

Check out Yanahli WMA in Maury county. 12,800 acres COVERED with birds. The WMA is broken up into random sections around the Duck River. Go for the smaller areas with more limited access, they will have fewer hunters. If you can get a small spot by the river you might easily find some roosting birds.

Best of luck. I am a beginner too...

That is good to hear! I was starting to think I was the only person who hadn't seen a deer in 100 hours of hunting. I was definitely discouraged and was hoping Spring Turkey would redeem that deer season. Thanks for the info!

Catman- Sounds great, Maury county is around an hour and 45 minutes away. If I don't find anywhere closer, I may try to pull an all day adventure and drive down. Thanks for the help.

It may be worth the trip if you get in a good spot. It's only about 45 minutes for me if I drive fast on the interstate. About an hour from my house to the spot I have been hunting on Yanahli.

So where is this secret spot? Haha just kidding.

BSisco5- Thanks I will do some research on it.
