What is the minimum FPS recommended for a cross bow shooting out to 35-40yds ?

Standard hunting bolts, with standard cut fixed or mechanical broadheads.

Not looking for anything exotic, not hunting African Buffalo, or elephants. Deer and wild hogs only.

Thanks!

Elbow flared back up and I'm worried about missing bow season.
Not ready to hang up the compound just yet but need a back up.

I don't want to buy a piece of junk, but I don't really have a budget either. Needs to be cost effective as I will have to scrounge the cash out of other budget items.

If you were on a TIGHT budget, what is the minimum FPS cross bow you would be looking at?

I have only owned 1 but its rated at 345,had 1 jump the string at 10y and lost it,never will shoot at another 1 looking at me unless its with a gun.

If you go with Excalibur then Vixen is plenty. They kill moose in Canada with the Vixen all the time. I currently have a Phoenix and its plenty for my hunting needs.
I use a fixed blade Montec CS on a Spynal Tapp arrow with brass insert and with SK-300 vanes. Bought them from Jerry at SouthShore Archery if your looking for pin point accuracy. I have some GoldTip Laser IIs for sale and they are spine checked and matched. They hold just as tight of a same hole group but I wanted a heavier arrow.
Good luck.

I got a excalibur pheonix in the classifieds. FPS dial on the scope is set at 280ish and thats pushing a 435gr arrow. It gives me 2 inch groups at 40 yds..
