Went out this morning and about 8:30 had a doe come around from behind me. She then walked about 35 yards and I set my pin on her! Thought dinner was gonna happen till I heard "SLAP!!!" from my string across my jacket!!! The doe lunged down then trotted about 70 yards away. I watched the arrow fly just over her back. Man I was unhappy, but,,, I did a can bleat and she came back with caution. I quickly got another arrow and reset my sleeve. With my heart pounding and her smelling the air and stomping the ground we both anticipated what was gonna happen next. I drew on the doe 4 times but no clear shot came about due to foliage and bamboo shoots. Needless to say the doe made a right choice to head back and I had the sad lesson of preparing for no string slap the next time,,

Never used arm guards - those are always the first thing I take off of new coats. Do you guys really use those?
I use one. I have a leaf suit and dont want the string to touch nothing.

If your jacket is bulky, get some type of armguard to mash it down and keep it out of the way. Make sure you aren't jacking your front shoulder up either. That will roll your arm in closer to the string.

Your draw length is little to long or you had your arm too straight at full draw.

Do what she said, oh wait a minute! I agree with a woman! :o :D

She is correct and I use one also just to get the garment out of the way.

A woman that learned the hard way. I blew a 300 round because of a bulky sweatshirt. Also, you rip the hide off your arm once, you figure out how to never do it again.:)

I use a compression sleeve. Don't have a problem with the string slapping my arm but I use it to keep clothes out of the way.

I'd shorten the draw length a half inch if you are getting string slap , unless you were wearing a very heavy jacket . You should have a slight bend in the arm when at full draw with the string just touching the tip of your nose at anchor.

lot of things could have happend but sometimes you just have to practice rotating your arm away from the bow. I'm no expert but that was an issue when I first started.

I like wearing a jacket without bulky sleeves , and wear an insulated vest under the jacket . Under layers are better than adding too much bulk in the sleeves .

Make sure your draw length isn't too long, I actually shorten my up 1/2" for my hunting rigs. I never wear jackets with bulky sleeves either. Many times when a guys draw is too long he has to straighten his arm up soo much that it causes string slap.
