Went to NWTF today, this is becoming a yearly trip. Intended to get a Sumtoy choke and a FastFire 3 for my new 835. Plus, going to finally get a Lifetime license from TWRA.
Well, Sumtoy wasn't at the show. I'd been calling them with no one answering and their answering machine was full. No joy.
As for the FastFire, not one single exhibitor was selling them.
TWRA was relegated to outside the exhibit hall. I finally found them and happened to met the Director. He was not a happy camper with their location, and said this wouldn't happen again. Was told that they are only selling about 1/3 the normal amount of licenses.
On the plus side, I got the chance to talk with Mr. Tom Kelly and get one of his books. I feel smarter just for shaking his hand!
On another plus, I got PLENTY of exercise. Could get nowhere near official parking, so parked behind Bob Evan's restaurant and walked to the hotel. After not finding the FastFire, decided to hike to BassPro (no parking there either, so might as well walk). Guess what? They apparently don't even carry any version of the FastFire.

I saw a few TWRA officers when I went on Friday but I didn't even see their booth, sucks they were pushed out of the hall.

It was my first time going and there was a good bit to look at and I talked to a couple of call makers and the guys from PA with the taxidermy decoys that I thought was cool.

Speaking of sum toy a ton of people have good things to say about them but the only time I tried to deal with them it was completely negative

I'm really hoping that isn't going to be the case with me. :(

What happened

That explains why I couldn't find the TWRA booth. I never thought about looking for them outside the main area.

No way to know they were even there, as they were left off the Exhibitor's list. I happened to run into someone wearing a TWRA polo shirt and asked him where they were.
Even then, you had to go outside the hotel, and around a corner into a separate building next to the Opry Mills parking lot.

I think the Fastfire is a great product, and I know here on TNDEER it got a huge following, but commercially, its not been a hit. I really dont know why. Most dealers won't even consider stocking it, its a shame.

I called sumtoy today. Had a really great talk about all things turkey/shotguns/loads, etc. (He doesn't do NWTF due to the high exhibitors fees and related travel expenses.)
I ended up ordering a 675 for my Mossberg 835, and got several recommended loads.
So far, I'm happy. Can't wait for the tube to come in.

Which loads are you going to shoot out of it?

I picked up a box of Winchester Longbeard XR #5s at NWTF.

When I talked to Sumtoy's yesterday they said it is very strange, but #6 shoots incredibly out of their chokes, with #4s almost as good. He said they don't know why the #5s don't do as well (still good, but I can't remember all the pellet counts he told me). He thinks there might be a lot problem with the resin binder. Also, when the temp drops below 40 degrees, the spread is different. Probably also due to the resin binder.
I'm going to grab a box of #6s and try those as well when the choke comes in.
