Anybody take into consideration an arrow's momentum in deciding their set up? I have a couple of arrows I'm working with and the KE is very similar but the momentum number is much higher for the heavier arrow.

373 grain arrow
319 fps
85 lbs KE

440 grain arrow
299 fps
87 lbs KE

Looking at the two arrows the faster arrow is more appealing but momentum goes up considerably with the heavier arrow.

373 grain arrow
.53 momentum

440 grain arrow
.58 momentum

The 440 grain arrow maintains a momentum higher than .5 well past 60 yards, but the 373 grain arrow loses momentum quickly.

Let me add that I typically hunt in areas where a long shot would be 25 yards, so 20 fps is not a big deal.
and the momentum dropping off at 60 yds would be no big deal either!! At 25 yds you shouldnt be able to tell one bit of difference in either even if you go shoulder blade on one!!!

sharp blades are much more important than ke or momentum

X2! Very well said, sharp blades cut veins and doesn't disperse energy as quick as dull blades that move objects, such as veins, instead of slicing through them.

I shoot 500 grains in the 270+ fps range. I would shoot heavier all day long over the lighter.

You have plenty of KE and momentum for deer with either setup . I'd choose the arrow that shoots a broadhead the most accurate . Group tune both with field points.

What kind of bow are you shooting and whats your dl? That sure is fast and hard hitting with either setup.

Agree. Don't make it a complicated process or issue.
