Has anyone had a misfire with the Winchester Longbeard XR ammunition? (Light primer strike)

At the range today and on one cartridge I pulled the trigger and click. Nothing.
The primer had a very light primer strike, so I rechambered and it fired fine.
This is the second year with the shotgun (used before me, but excellent condition), maybe 50 rounds total by me, with no previous problem.

Note sure if the shotgun had a light primer strike or that particular primer was extra hard. Needless to say, I really don't need this to happen at the moment of truth.

Had my 835 over 20 years and never had a misfire. You may need to take yours apart and clean it really well. Sounds like it may have rust or trash on the hammer spring or on the firing pin.

I had that issue with my 835 several years ago. After about 5 years, it started misfiring sporadically, with the firing pin leaving a small indention in the primer. It was under warranty, so I sent it back to Mossberg. The day I got it back, I shot about 5 times and it misfired again. I sent it back to them requesting they replace all internal parts. They replaced everything and I've not had an issue since (going on 10 years).

If you acdcidentally hit the release button for the pump and dont know it, it will misfire....I have had it happen to me several times on turkeys after carrying it all day...Now, everytime i set up on a bird, its push the button, pull the slide back 1" and shove it back up, no problems since doing this

Elkman, that is what I did to finish out the range session.

I did some internet research last night and apparently this is a known problem with the 835s, almost always traced to debris in the firing pin channel.
Will get that disassembled and cleaned out.
