Got off work at 7am and decided to try the spot I seen a strutter yesterday morning only to have him and 4 hens walk by at 10yds on the opposite way I was facing. He never gobbled on the roost or after flydown yesterday. So today I ease back up to the field where they were yesterday and there's the 4 hens but no gobbler. I ease back out and decide to try a ridge that usually has birds on it. I called softly, waited a few mins then go 100yds and repeat but never heard anything. I thought they might be one across the rd so I hit the box call a few times loudly, I gobbled a few times but silence is all I heard so I start back to the truck and was crossing a fence below where the hens were look up to see 3 long beards easing up the ridge to the field.(they had to walk right past my truck) so I turn around and sprint back up the ridge to get to the field edge where the hens were earlier but are gone now. I set up in the opposite corner of where they should pop out at and give a few cuts and yelps from my mouth call. 5 mins later I see them ease under the fence and start feeding. They still never gobbled or strutted. They new there was a hen on the other side of the field but continued feeding. It took them 45mins to come 100 yds when I took the lead bird at 30yds. I thought they were 2 year olds because they looked small but was surprised when I got up to him. At least 3 years old. He was 21lbs 9 1/2"beard and 1 3/16 spurs. I still haven't heard a gobble after flydown around here.

I think I seen one strutting with a hen this evening on my way back to work that I might try to get on in the morning. But after working 12 hours last night and fooling with this bird till 10:45am and not going to bed till 1pm and getting back up for work at 5pm I'm not sure if I want to try it again or not. I guess I will know at 7:45am when I get home. On the other hand there's only a couple weeks of season left and we can sleep when were dead lol

I have never seen a spring with less gobbling around here. Gobbled good on the roost the first week or so but not lately.
