Let's see how this goes. It's a 30 day poll with the option to change your vote if needed. The question is, how do you feel about allowing centerfire, straight wall cartridges during the muzzleloader season? According to this April 2018 article linked below, "The Tennessee Wildlife Federation conducted a survey on hunters feeling on the measure that revealed 60 percent of 6,247 people surveyed supported the change."

Nope, leave it as is. I would have voted to make more restrictions, but if others are like me, targets are blurry with peeps, then the optics are almost mandatory. I would like to see crossbow moved to muzzleloader season though, and then allow the air bow as well.

Leave it as it is or just call it deer season and hunt with what you want. No xtra days or more doe tags ect, no 1 weapon should take priority over another imo

With modern muzzleloader technology I don't see a need for different seasons as ML just causes hunters to spend more on a third weapon and a third tag. I would support either making the ML season more primitive or introducing the option for hunting with a rifle caliber.

I pinched my nose and voted for one.

I have a great idea.... allow side lock muzzleloaders during archery season. Patched round ball or bore size bullet only...iron sights, no scopes, black powder or BP substitute, no smokeless.

Since it's not archery only, we could call it "Primitive Weapon Season". LOL

:D excellent idea!

Why not a 357 carbine?

Why does a 10 year old have to have a 45-70?

I'm all for expanding opportunities to young hunters where possible

The same people that gripe against straight walled cartridges in muzzleloader or primitive seasons are probably the same ones that griped against crossbows in archery season.

I'll throw it out there, What about archery, then straight to all firearms! Or just charge double for the straight wall permit and the regular for the muzzleloader permit.

I vote for it either way! I would rather have a straight wall in my hands that a smoke pole during the rut!!

To prove that I'm fair minded about this subject, I voted to eliminate myself from those two weeks of hunting by saying that muzzle loader season should be changed to ONLY include the type guns generally available when TN 1st came up with the season. The whole reason an early special season was created for muzzle loaders is because at the time muzzle loaders couldn't compete with center-fire rifles ballistics nor did they have sights that were compatible with long range shooting. Now that has changed so much that they are practically equal to center-fire rifles. I think we should go back to the roots of muzzle loading and allow side-lock only and open sights only. Let the true muzzle loader enthusiasts have their season and let the people who game the system by using modern muzzle loader only to get an extra 2 weeks of hunting wait till Rifle season opens or get a side-lock gun.

I say all this in spite of my unwillingness to buy such a rifle and participate. I'd gladly just sit it out until Rifle season and be perfectly happy. Besides it would make "Opening Day" more fun if there were only one such day again!

This idea is being revisited once again, it may be picking up steam this time around.

I still stand by what I posted to this day, mind hasn't changed only the days on the calendar.

I really couldn't care less because in the end, what someone else uses will probably never really affect me or my hunting whatsoever. The people that might take advantage of a straightwall cartridge are probably the ones that only hunt during rifle season anyways and actually only hunt a few days a year. I have a muzzleloader that will outshoot any straightwall cartridge available so there's not much advantage going to a straightwall other than if I'm a bad shot and I get more chances LOL :)
