Here is a knife from the Civil War I inherited from my grandfather (actually my step-grandfather). His g-grandfather was a captain in the confederate army. The knife is a Union "sash knife" I think. It has the the previous owners name "E.B. Ellis" and the date "1860" on it. Its ivory handled.

there are a lot of union soldiers with first name starts with "E" and last name = "Ellis"

If I had the time, I could research all the battles my g-g-grandfather fought in, then find people with the same "E.B. Ellis" name that fought in the same battle. I imagine that would take quite some time though.
