Is right now... Tons of minnows in the lake all bunched up with lots of fish gorging on them... A friend and I went fishing last night and we easily caught more than a 100 fish between us... everything from Crappie, yellow bass, large mouth, bream and the vast majority of them being white bass... Throwing little Cleo spoons... I sat on my dock on Tuesday night this week in one place and stopped counting the white bass after I caught 40 and got tired of unhooking them. if you have not gone after the schooling white bass this time of year... you are missing out.

We started targeting them about 2 years ago. I haven't fished for them this time of year yet. What lake are you on?

Melton Hill... you never know what you are going to catch around the bait balls... I found some schooling large mouth a few days ago on some minnows and probablt caught 15 LM on 10 minutes on top water... all about 1 - 2 pounds but a ton of fun on ultra-light tackle

We spent a weekend fishing for crappie on Weiss lake in Alabama, 4 of us in the boat, buddies uncle had way too much to drink the previous night and had a huge hangover we got on the water at 5am and by 9am we got 178 crappie 3 of us caught 177 and the drunk uncle caught 1.

the drunk uncle caught one... that made me LOL

That sounds like fun! What's on your mind as far as your setup and flies?
These ought to do and I have one I want to try but I have to tie it.

Of course I'm the oddball non conformist and my buddy is bringing a battalion of Clauser's. Most anything gray and white AKA THREADFIN SHAD works…

Rain but lots of great fun!
White bass mostly decided to only eat in the evenings where we were. White, yellow, largemouth, and smallmouth, and even a catfish or two on flies! . What a smorgasbord!

I would like to get into some hybrids on that lake sometime. I haven't caught one of those in twenty years!

Looks like a great time! I'm hoping to venture out of my bluelining comfort zone and do a couple of warm water trips this week myself. I'm on vacation but with a foot injury so I'm pretty limited to what I can do.
