My brother and I got after them opening morning and after not having much success at one farm at daylight we decided to head to another farm behind our house. We got set up around 10:00am and I sat him up about ten yards in front of me hoping for him to get the first shot.
About a half hour later I saw three big longbeards at the bottom of the holler a couple of hundred yards away. We started calling softly to them and they hammered and came in on a string. My brother shot the strutter at the back of the group at about 20 steps. I had my bead on that bird as well so it sort of shocked me when he shot. But at the shot the other ones jumped and stood there for a second. THis gave me just enough tome to get on one and let him have it at about 47 steps. Down he went.
My brother's bird: 21 lbs 10 1/4 in beard and 1 1/8 spurs
My bird: 18 lbs 9 1/4 inch beard and 1 inch spurs.
For some reason I can't get my pics from my cell phone to post on here.
