I got the chance to slip out into the woods on Sunday morning to do a little turkey hunt. I started with some soft purrs and this guy flew down from the roost to my decoys. I have had some great luck with the tactic of putting a hen decoy on the ground with a jake decoy on top of her like they are mating. The big toms can't stand it when they see it. Just as in most cases, he spotted the decoy and began to sprint directly at them. I rolled him at 15 yards with a 3 1/2 inch mag fired from a Benelli Nova. He never moved after the shot! We weighed him at 18 lbs. It was awesome and I feel blessed because this is the longest beard of any bird that I have ever harvested!
