As you all know by now, I'm a DAWGS fan, but I also call it like I see it without looking through red and black colored glasses.
UGA is off to their best start in years, and have played a quality though not spectacular schedule (although that ND win at ND is looking better and better as the season goes on). There is a lot being said about their great start, both by lovers and haters (I've heard many Vols fans who can't give UGA the credit for the win, only Butch Jones the blame for the loss). They have a top 10 defense (actually #4, but who's counting), special teams are playing great, and are averaging 35ppg with a true freshman qb and somewhat shaky o-line.
BUT.
They still have the toughest part of the schedule in front of them, and SO many things can happen. The next 6 games are:
Missouri- good offense, but not very good overall. Still an SEC game.
Florida- McElwain reminds me of Les Miles in that his teams just find a way to win, often on luck and fluke plays. Also, this is a rivalry game in Florida at a "neutral site," and UGA has had trouble with this rivalry over the past 15+ years. Could be interesting.
USCe- starting to look much better, and never a team to be overlooked. I can't stand Muschamp, but he seems to be putting together a decent team and getting a lot out of the little that he has to work with.
@Auburn- started the season poorly against a VERY good Clemson team, but have looked great the rest of the way. Oldest rivalry in the south. This will hopefully be a great game! Auburn seems to have the edge on this one
UK- see USCe
@GT- major rivalry game. Have a great rushing attack with a nasty chop-blocking offensive line scheme that can ruin knees and careers.
UGA is also playing very short handed on defense right now due to injuries and suspensions, and did not play well in the first half against Vandy because of that. Defensive secondary is not as strong as I would like, and really needs the d-line and linebackers to play great to cover for those deficiencies.
They seem to have good coaching and great senior leadership(Chubb, Michel, Carter, Bellamy), so I believe that they have the strength and ability to overcome the tough schedule, weaknesses, and distractions. But the big question is: "Will they?" My momma always told me to not count chickens before they hatch.
