First off I gotta give a shout out to the Old Hickory Archery Club. Those guys done a great job setting this shoot up. It was probably one of the best ran shoots that I have been to. They were doing a great job of busting up the "buddy groups" and when other shooters weren't available to put groups with, they were putting their own staff in the groups as score keepers. This is a good thing cause it takes away a lot of the drama associated with some of these shoots. I finally got to put some faces to names from here on the site...got to meet and shoot with Matt from Energywave strings, got to meet TnDeerGuy and DixieCrafter. I didn't get to talk to either of them long but I got to shake hands and talk a few anyway.

Now for my adventure.

In short...I sucked. Bad. If you don't like reading a lot...that's all you will be interested in seeing.
-----------------------------------------------------

In long...I *THINK* I finally figured out what caused it after racking my brain all evening, night, and most of the morning.

In a nutshell...I was the nut and shot myself in the foot. I was trying to prepare for shooting in the rain Saturday and I took my lens and clarifier out to see what/where my POI was WITHOUT them. It never crossed my mind til just a little while ago that this is probably what caused my woes. I put my lens and clarifier back in when I got to the shoot site and saw that it probably wasn't going to rain. I shot a couple arrows on the practice bales and noted I was hitting low/right but I was afraid to adjust ANYTHING on this bow because of how well I had been shooting it. This same low/right hitting plagued me on the course until I finally decided to do some adjusting. I ended up putting 6 total clicks of windage to the right to get me back into the 12s. On my sight, 1 click = 1/4 inch movement at 20 yards. I also ended up having to add 1.5 yards to my tape to hit center. If I went by my marks on my tape, I would hit low. I ended up shooting 11 total twelves out of 30 targets but I had so many 8s from low/right hits that it cancelled them out. There were some of them that I was out of the 12 by just a score cards thickness. I heard the phrase "that's as close as you can get to being in...and still be out" several times on the course. This is one I let slip through my fingers. If I would have just left everything alone, I could have probably shot 26-30 up on the course if I would have just hit the 12s that I was barely out of. I *think* either my lens or clarifier was off just enough that it changed my POI. We're not talking like 10 inches difference...but just enough to be out of the 12. It was about 2 inches to the right...which if you're holding on the 12 ring (about the size of a quarter) and miss by just a little, it had just as well be 12 inches. Makes me queasy at the stomach thinking about what could/should have been.

But there's one thing for sure...this was a HUGE lesson to learn from. On to next weekend now...the championship for the King of String series.

Dude that sucks . I seem where you posted about having issues on Facebook . I was getting ready to ask you if you made sure your lense was back in the same spot . I have heard of it doing this but it hasn't happened to me before . What kind of scope/lense are you shooting ?

I bought a Shrewd 42 mm Nomad scope and lens at the KY Pro Am. It was one of the selling features that you could take the lens out and clean it and put it back in the same spot on the scope. I may be wrong in my theory but that's all I can come up with. It is the only thing I've changed or touched on the bow since last week when it was a 12 driving machine. I will shoot tomorrow and take it back out and back on...just to see what happens.

Crow, it was very nice to finally put a face to the name! Sorry you had the trouble, but this time it definitely sounds like it was the bow and not the "Indian" behind it, which is kinda rare as you know.

Or...This could have been it. Out of a wild hair I put my Hamskea level on my sight to check it. And this is what I saw. For those that don't know...The Hamskea is the device on top with the level. It attaches to the sight bar. When it is centered in the level, the bubble in the scope should also be centered. As you can see...it is pegged to the right. Last week it was perfect on all 3 axis points. It has moved. A lot. So what this means...since I failed to notice, I assumed it was still correct and in line...so I would subconsciously level the bow at full draw. When in actual conditions I was canting the bow ever so slightly to make the bubble go center. Guess what direction I would be canting the bow in order to level the bubble...to the right. Because the sight bar has moved down and to the left...making the bubble peg to the right. I bet when I true this thing back up, I will have to take about 9 clicks out. How it moved is a good question. Every screw appeared to be tight but there is a little bit of play/slop in the windage part there, despite the bolt being tight.

Here's an update to this:

The taking out of the lens = no change. I took it out again...put it back in. Tightened it down...and no change.

But the thing I found in the picture above...was for sure the cause. What it is...is the 2nd Axis part of the sight. I assumed the bolt that holds this in place, had came loose allowing the sight to work its way out of alignment. I was wrong...the bolt was tight. BUT...I could take the scope in my fingers, and with a little pressure...I could move it quite a bit. It has resistance to it...but its not enough to hold the scope in place where it needs to be. I can move the scope enough that I can make the bubble go peg to the left or the right...that being with the bolt tight as it can go. Once I got it back level again...I went out in the yard and sure enough, I had to move it back to the left...took 10 clicks left to get it center...and as a plus, my yardage tape is back being spot on again. I was having to add a yard or so to my tape before, even at the local shoots prior to the State. I think this was something that gradually has been moving...the Pro Comp Elite has a ton of vibration to it when you shoot. Stuff rattles loose on it all the time.

I asked about the sight problem on Archery Talk and evidently, this has been somewhat of a reoccurring problem with the Axcel AX series sights. So much so that they totally changed the windage block on their newer series. One of the reps from TruBall saw my post and contacted me and said they would fix the sight for free if I sent it in to them. I told them that I would send it in after the ASA Classic. I don't have a backup sight to go to for now. I am taking my Hamskea with me this coming weekend...and am checking it after ever target. lol. The KOS Series ends this weekend...I'm currently in 3rd place in the standings...just 6 points out of 1st and a big pot of cash goes to the winner. Should be over $700 worth to the winner and the top 5 are gonna be grouped together in a peer group. Should be fun.
