Here's what I plan on hunting with this year. I have a new Tenpoint Carbon Nitro with Spynal Tapp arrows tipped with a 100 gr. NAP Crossbow Killzones. I'm going to try the Caldwell Deadshot Fieldpod Max when hunting outside a blind. I plan on building a natural blind around me and hopefully I get a bird into range. I'll also be using a DSD Jake and Hen.
I made a shelf to hold my turkey calls that attaches to the Fieldpod. Here's a video of the setup.
Thanks, David

Nice piece of work there. I'm a gadget guy too, but I'm way, way too mobile for anything like that. I'd say you better invest in a more comfortable chair with that rig. I like it though for a blind situation.

Agree, not for run and gun and the chair sucks. I've got another one coming. I have the Caldwell Chairpod for the blind. The shelf fits on that too.
Thanks, David

Very nice setup you have, hope you have some good luck with it.You are very innovative when it comes to making things for hunting!Good Luck :super: :super: :super:

Very nice, and very innovative. :)

I do see one potential "weak link", at least in terms of your not spooking an approaching bird --- it is your water holder.
You may be ahead of my thinking here, and already figured out that a typical clear plastic water bottle is very reflective and noticeable. If you use a dull camo water bottle, should be ok.

Even if there is zero movement by you, an approaching turkey is moving, and can suddenly be hit by the reflective light coming off a typical water bottle. ANYTHING "unnatural" like this can often cause a turkey to come no closer once it gets his attention.

I'd also "lose" the Velcro, but may be alone in my thoughts about Velcro, i.e. absolutely hate the stuff regarding any application involving deer or turkey hunting.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I did not mean "Velcro" . It's a 2" felt side only, it doesn't have the other sticky side . It just keeps it soft against the holder and its a firm fit that keeps it from rolling around. I hate Velcro too....way too noisy for hunting and would never use it either.
Thanks again, David

Glad to "hear" that! :D
I have very sensitive ears for Velcro (as do other turkeys) --- hearing it is like hearing someone run their fingernails across a chalk board ---- makes me cringe ---- THOUGHT I heard it while watching your video.
It's a DISPICABLE sound.

One other thing I would like to add, If someone wants to video their hunt, you can build the shelf and use it on a Caldwell Fieldpod. Just add and attach an L bracket to the shelf, drill a hole in the bracket so a 1/4 -20 bolt will attach to the bottom of a camera and be able to video whether you're using a shotgun or crossbow. Where ever you point your shotgun / crossbow, the camera will be pointed in the same direction.
Just another option you can use the shelf for.
I sent a video to Battenfield /Caldwell and they really liked the idea. They said they are going to do a little research and let me know if they make something like it. I know they can make something a lot better and more professional looking than a piece of 1x4 . I hope they do.
Later, David

Nice! Have plenty of bolts, because my recovery rate of bolts with an xbow from the ground is about 50%. They zip right through them!
