Is Tennessee ever going to have a national championship in any sport, use to count on the girls basketball, but can't do that anymore

It's looking doubtful. TN athletics are in a bad slump, right now it doesn't look good for the foreseeable future. I don't know who the blame goes to but I think a big part of it goes to Cheek.

Don't forget the championships won in track and field, men and women. also men and women swimming and diving national championships.

According to Tennessee QB Jarrett Guarantano says Vols are 'soon to be SEC Champions'.

Tennessee fans got their first opportunity to see redshirt freshman QB Jarrett Guarantano in action during Tuesday's practice.

Guarantano is battling for the starting quarterback position with Quinten Dormady this spring, and sources we've spoken with inside the program says Guarantano should be the signal caller to beat.

Nonetheless, Guarantano isn't going to be handed the job, and Dormady has looked capable in limited time during his career. I wouldn't expect Butch Jones to make any type of decision anytime soon.

Guarantano spoke to the media after practice, and he thinks Tennessee is a university that's "soon to be the SEC Champions." When asked by the media if his every move is being watched while competing for the starting job, Guarantano had the following to say:

"Yeah, every single step is watched," Guarantano said. "I go to class; I'm being watched. I'm on Twitter; I'm being watched. I'm on Instagram. But that's what comes with the job and being the quarterback at a big university — a university that's soon to be the SEC Champions, and it's going to be even crazier in the future."

Vols fans have to love the swagger and confidence he brings to the table.

Tennessee's last SEC Championship came back in 1998 when the Vols won the first BCS National Championship. Since '98, Tennessee lost the SEC Championship Game in 2001, 2004 and 2007.

Notably, Alabama has beaten the Vols 10 straight times, and even getting past Florida and getting to Atlanta has been an issue. Even though the Florida curse was broken in 2016, Tennessee couldn't manage to make it back to the championship game.

Can Guarantano help change things around for Butch Jones and company? He should be a welcomed sight in Knoxville.

Guarantano's full interview can be seen here, and his comments come at the very end of the video.

I am 29 so I have been hearing folks say this since most of my adult life. I take it as a joke nowadays.

Well I'm 49 and never have heard UK football being mentioned about a championship. Conference or National.
UT fans can at least talk about it. As slim as the chance may be.

UK fans are smart enough to not talk about something that is inevitable. We strive off our basketball program. At least we have 1 thing to strive on. Tn has had nothing to strive on but fans saying "wait til next year'' and "we're rebuilding". Heck you have a coach who rolls around on the ground crying because he beats Florida in a regular season game. It's a regular season game, come on you shouldn't have had to wait 12 yrs to do it. Then he wins a Toilet Bowl game and makes it out like he's won a NC. Tn can be a good program again but it has to start by getting a good coach. If you're happy with a 6-6, 7-5, or 8-4 season then you have the right guy.

probably not in the next 4-6 years. I don't think they win a title with CBJ in football & I think the BBall boys could possibly make it back to the sweet 16 under Barnes in the next two or three years that's about it.

Kentucky BBall fans you guys do realize your basketball power house has won just 1 more title then the Vols poor football team in the last 20 years right? Kentucky's BBall team and the vols football team both won titles in 1998 & Kentuckys bball team has only won a single title since then 5 years ago & four of your 8 titles were in the 60's one in the 70's..... just saying sometimes your fans talk like they be winning titles every other year...

anyways besides bama football & Kentucky basketball who are at least in the running every year, and they do have a championship caliber team every year. SEC sports are really down as a whole.

I was talking about the 3 major sports... Girls BBall UT use to be a power house, But now its all about UConn. Boys BBall Kentucky is the top dog in the SEC for that, but like I said two Chips in 20 years last one was 5 years ago... teams like Kansas, Duke, UNC can say they just as good or better then KY... and the biggest one of all football and its bama or bust in that...
