Nebraska's Bo Pelini on ESPN/SEC relationship: 'You're supposed to be neutral'

Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini spoke out in opposition to what he believes to be a bias towards the SEC by ESPN on Monday, according to Samuel McKewon of the Omaha-World Herald.

During his weekly press conference Pelini spoke on his issue with the relationship between the SEC and ESPN, the sports media conglomerate.

Nebraska's Bo Pelini on 4 SEC West teams being in top 4: "They play good fb. I know there's good fb played in some other conferences, too."

Pelini on ESPN/SEC Network relationship: "I don't think that kind of relationship is good for college football."

More Pelini on ESPN/SEC Network relationship: "You're supposed to be neutral. Pretty hard to stay neutral in that situation."

The No. 15 Cornhuskers, who are 6-1, play in the Big Ten. Fox Entertainment owns the majority (51%) of the conference's Network.

Here's the deal...the SEC rules college football. I'm not trying to be sarcastic, but it's the truth. You might have 1 or 2 good college teams in each of the other conference's, but as a whole most of the SEC is usually strong with the exception of a few each year. How many times have we seen the NC game come down to a SEC vs some other undefeated conference team and just get blown out? How many times have we seen it the other way?

I'll tell you what's not good for college football, watching two Big 10 teams play. Nebraska has no chance of returning to their glory days due to their conference and it wouldn't matter who they had as a coach. There are like three good Big 10 games in any given year. That is the reason they can't draw enough good players to contend.

It also isn't flattering listening to coaches from other conferences whine about the SEC and ESPN. ESPN aires other conferences too, not just SEC games. It hasn't been that long ago when there were less SEC games on every Saturday than Big 10 and Big 8 games.

The SEC has won 9 out of 16 BCS National Championship Games and won 7 in a row. Hard to debate that the SEC isn't clearly the best conference.

Side note that ND in resent years has a record of 1-18 against teams ranked in the top 5.

If ESPN is s privately-owned company, why do they have to be neutral? I guess the SEC Network is also supposed to be non-biased.

They have other networks besides the SEC. They have PAC12 and Longhorn network that I know of.

That would be 2-17 after the win against FSU on Sat night.

Side note, Notre Dame's last 3 head coaches were Charlie Weis, Tyrone Willingham and Bob Davie. I wouldn't wish those 3 clowns on any fan base. They all proved to be awful head coaches, and Willingham (Golfingham as we called him) proved to be a lazy and terrible recruiter who set the program back years (not unlike Dooley). ND now has a competent head coach and a very good recruiter with a long career of winning. If he stays around for several more years, and I pray he does, he will do his part to reverse the recent historical underperformance. However, I can see him giving the NFL a try sooner than later.

By the way, Tyrone Willingham, who nearly destroyed the football programs at Notre Dame and then Washington, was somehow granted a spot on the selection committee for the new 4-team playoff. How's that for political correctness run amok!

ESPN getting in bed with the SEC is like the mainstream media being in bed with the Democrats. The influence and bias is clear.

Anti-SEC, anti-ESPN, anti-FSU, Low Tide!

Moral Victory??? Where I'm from, you either win or lose.... :) No such thing as a moral victory.

Of course I was hoping that ND would of beat FSU but you will not here me blame the refs for a team losing a game. I have already read too many post about moral victory and refs... :)

We all know who really won that game....

Rumor is that Florida AD has reached out through back channels and contacted Ty Willingham's agent to gauge Ty's interest in the Florida job.

I just checked the standings and it shows that FSU won the game.... And I'm disappointed that ND couldn't beat FSU but it is, what is and that's football. I will check back later and see if they update the standings... :D

Some of us know who won that game. Others think Notre Dame was robbed by the officials.

If you see ND's record listed as 6-1, that is a mistake. Ojective viewers who saw the video footage from the back of endzone know it was a blown coverage by FSU, a gift from an ACC ref, and that ND is really 7-0.

I just watched the video and it's one thing to rub the guy or cut off his path to set a pick. It's another to block the guy with your hands up in his shoulder pads. As it pains me to see FSU win that game, the refs made the correct call.

Penalty was called on ND #7 against FSU #3. What you just described does not occur in the video with ND #7 and FSU #3. FSU #3 jumps ND #7's slant route inside and removes himself from the play. Terrible call. ND 7-0.

Futhermore....

Heres the new wrinkle: ACC coordinator of football officiating Doug Rhoads told the Notre Dame coaching staff Sunday night that FSU cornerback P.J. Williams should have been flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct for removing his helmet on the field in celebration immediately after the ND penalty was called.

Since that would have been a dead-ball foul, the penalties would not have offset. The ND penalty would have been marched off first, then half-the-distance to the goal for the FSU infraction would have given ND first-and-goal from the 9.

While that doesnt guarantee a different outcome to the game, ND conceivably would have had two plays rather than one and at a much more manageable distance. An ND official confirmed Rhoads acknowledgement.

I'm a Notre Dame fan, my mom graduated from st Mary's. Unfortunate for the Irish the correct call was made. Now the helmet thing could have saved them, but that call wasn't made.

Terrible call + a terrible no-call = [color:#3366FF]N[color:#FFCC66]D [color:#3366FF]7-[color:#FFCC66]0

Onward to the playoff!
