My Old Mossberg is getting to where it doesnt fire every once in a while. I will have a bird come in, pull the trigger, the firing pin will click, and nothing. I rechamber and BOOM! It has happened three times over the past two turkey seasons, Luckily on each bird, I have been able to rechamber a shell and get the kill. There will be a really soft dent in the primer of the shells, but it will not go off. Its about 15 years old, and I'm afraid my time in the dove field may have wore it out. I love the way that this gun patterns, but I cant afford to loose a bird because of a malfunction. Any ideas?

I HAD a 835 that did the same
It cost me a bird on public ground and almost cost
me another on private! It would snap the shell
and when I went to work the pump it would feed two shells at
once causing a jam in the ejection port. One good thing about the 835 is it did produce a good pattern and would kill a bird a long way.

I'd definitely be ticked about loosing a public land bird. Were you able to fix your problem or did you get a new gun?

How do I break it down and get the spring out to clean it. I know how to break it down and get all of the bolt out, but how do I get the spring out or is that too big of an undertaking?

I would say take your action apart. Get you a can of Gun Scrubber from WalMart and spray the spring/firing pin assembly down very well. Repeat, then blow dry with compressed air..... put a light squirt of oil on it and see what happens then.

Just ordered a new spring. I'm going to break it down, clean it and put the new spring in. Hopefully this will fix the problem.
