Well my son is wanting a Bow and I have never had one so here is the question. Should I just buy him a Bow or should he get measured first for one ? He is about 6 ft 4 in height. There are plenty of used Bows out there but i'm afraid to buy one without truly knowing what will fit him first..

Get him measured first. At 6'4 hes gonna have a long draw. You need to know that whatever bow he buys will fit him. Also, test his dominate eye as that is what hand he needs to shoot with. My brother is about 6'4 right handed but left eye dominate. Shoots a bow and guns left handed. Quite a good shot and we got him started that way so he never got frustrated.

go to a bow shop and get measured. Then have him test out some of the new bows. the more he shoots the better idea he has of what feels right for him. Archery is a fun sport but can get very frustrating if your shooting the wrong equipment and the arrows are flying all over the place. Also suggest once he gets the bow to join an indoor league or go to a local 3 -d shoot. Everyone I have every attended the guys were very helpfull with guys just learning. With that in mind though everyone has an opinion they are just not always right. Why don't you get a bow too so you can learn together?

Trailwatcher, In my experience it is a great idea to buy the most expensive bow currently available. I recommend the Mathews X7, your son seems like a great guy and I'm sure he really deserves it. He is going to be a great shot (look out Robin Hood). I also recommend a new gun, 4 wheeler, and truck to haul it with. Either way good luck, you've got a real winner.

Oh yeah, thank's DAD!

I live on Mud Island, maybe we can shoot some once I get one!

Tyler, sure. I shoot out at Herb Parson lake a lot during the summer and once a month we have a 3-d shoot with Wolf River Bowhunters. Schedule has not been set for 2011 but it will most likley be the 3rd sunday of March - Sept. Several good shops in the area to get you started Shelby Forest Archery, Avery outdoors and Everything Archery.
