I went to the farm to try my luck when the rain slacked off this morning a little after 9. Drove by the pond and didn't see my musgovies - didn't think anything about it. Then I rounded a corner and saw them about 125 yards away in the field... with 3 gobblers struttin around them. They all saw me in the truck, so I backed up until I was hidden and got out with my gun and gobbler decoy. My only option was to walk toward them along the edge of the field because of some thick briars in the woods...so I hold the decoy up and start easing toward them. They were all still there!
When I get to where they can see my decoy good, I set it down and take a couple of steps into the thick stuff. One gobbler leaves (the smart one). I hit the call and the other two come running. I couldn't get a shot until he was close (I was afraid he was too close for full choke). Got him at 13 yards. 10" beard, 1" spurs, 24.5 pounds.
