I finally bought a Crossbow and trying to learn as much as possible. Now this crossbow shoots a 16.5" bolt "Quill" Excalibur calls it. They give you 4 carbon bolts and 4 field points. The bolt total weight is 250 Grns. the field points they give you are 150 Grn. and thats what they say shoots best. Well the problem is you cant find broadheads that weighs 150 grn. I like Rages they only make 100, 125, like most do. They say that as long as I don't have less than 350 Grns. total that I'm fine and it wont hurt the crossbow. So do I change to 125 field point and go with a Rage Crossbow X 125 which will make the total weight 375 Grn. or go down to 100 grn. and get more speed but loose energy. Whats the best combo in your opinion?, Is there 150 grn. mechanical I can buy that works. What to do, :bash: Help please, I'm an old Archer but this Crossbow thing is new to me. :poke:

I shoot 125 grains out of my Excalibur fixed blade, I decided to go in between what I was shooting out of my compound and what they recommend for crossbow. They say do not shoot mechanical out of crossbows.

congrats on a great crossbow.

Excaliburs bolt cutter fixed blades are 150 grns. They are hard to find unless you order them. Bought some off amazon today for $36/3.

I bought some custom arrows off the Excalibur sight. Black Eagle Zombie Slayers cut at 15.5 inches with the 92 grain brass inserts. With the NAP MAXX 100 grain heads im sitting right at 350 grains total. I am getting right at 340 fps with those arrows and a custom Flemish string. I may step up to the 125 grain heads to get a little more KE at distance. But over all that little Micro had amazed me so far.

( Where does it say to not shoot mechanicals? I got rage 125.) I have never read that either! I shoot a 125 Gr Spitfire out of the Matric 380!

I have never heard not to shoot mechanicals.I also have a new Excalibur Micro 335 and I shoot 100 grain Swacker.I had a older Excaliber before I bought the new one and It was rated 350.I shot the 100 grain Swacker in it and never had a deer go over 40 yards after it was shot.I plan on trying the new Micro 335 out in the morning.

I'm shooting mechanicals out of mine just fine, I'm not shooting the stock quills I switched to carbon express maxima and shoot 100gr broadheads and it's shooting awesome, the only downside to those arrows is they are longer and stick out past the stirrup but i would rather have that and shoot the broadheads of my choice.

I never shot the stock quill bolts. I'm shooting Gold Tip Laser III with a 100 grain field tip. NAP killzone expandables. Pulled the trigger twice...killed two deer. Also sold the Excalibur scope that came with mine and bought a Hawke XB 30. I can hit a quarter at 20 , 30, and 40 yards...with a rest of course. The FOC is not far enough forward with the stock quill bolts IMO. But you will love the Micro. You can stick the limbs down between the rail on a summit and re-chocolate chip cookie.
