New for 2012

I read chasingame.com every day.

Some of the new cameras coming out for 2012 are very exciting. Of course, it will probably turn out like every year--awesome new technology in trail-cameras packaged in cheaply made Chinese junk that either doesn't work right out of the box or fails in a matter of weeks. It's the same every year. But I keep hoping (and wasting my money on Chinese junk).

Agree with paragraph, except last sentence. I stopped supporting commercial cameras a couple years ago. Dont see myself going back

If only homebrews were capable of doing some of the things the commercial cameras can do when they work.

What. BSK said, I,m still trying to find a chinese? That wil last over a year,, an I get a real deal on most of them. Opened one mid season and about a quarter cup of water ran out, Batteries actually had rust on the bottom where the little springies were. Called and got ra for two of them (actually talked to a real person first call ). he said they had some issues with leaking, silicone around the clear plastic would solve the problem! got my good ones mixed up with the two bad ones. Had to go thru 6 of them .. After they had dried out the two bad ones were then working! siliconed all 6. Prob solved , but as usual they should have peed on them or something before they were put on the market ! Maybe some day they will work out the kinks before they take our $$ ! Homebrews are not foolproof either.

I have learned that no matter what it is, if it is electronic no matter how well made anything can happen! There is no sure fire last forever electronic device. Some are better than others due to defects or what not but thats with anything in life.

Chasingame's reviews of two of the new 2012 black-flash models already have those two off my potential purchase list. As I expected, manufacturers promising a lot and not delivering...

Well you said it all right there..WHEN THEY WORK.
The commercial cams may offer more tricks and toys when working than a homebrew...but really do you need all the bells and whistles?
I prefer a stealthy camera with reliablity. Good ole white flash cameras are proven to not scare the crap out of deer like the red glow etc... and as for true blackflash...well brother FIREMANJIM has that taken care of that so imo, homebrews offers what you need without the chinese bells and whistles.

Yes, many of them I absolutely do, especially high-count and rapid burst mode pictures, as well as very short delay times. And of course, black-flash.

Good ole white flash cameras are proven to not scare the crap out of deer like the red glow etc...

Actually, in my studies, white-flash scared the crap out of deer. In fact, both white-flash and red-glow produced equal camera avoidance problems.

...and as for true blackflash...well brother FIREMANJIM has that taken care of that so imo, homebrews offers what you need without the chinese bells and whistles.

I wouldn't consider it true black-flash, but low-glow. I can see the light from FIREMANJIM's black-flash cameras at 8-12 feet. My true black-flash cams produce no visible light at all. Now whether deer can see the light from black-flash homebrews is still something I haven't been able to determine.

But I need as true black-flash as possible, and a camera that can be set to 15 second delay, and take 5-9 rapid-fire burst-mode pictures with every trigger, and be completely silent when doing so.

BSK, based on your requirments what is out there? What might be coming out that has yet to be crossed off the list. I have 3 Uways, great when they work...failure is high. I am not a believer in black flash especially as a scouting to hunt tool like I tend to use them.

But then again, you are not the typical trail cam user. I should have said the typical trail cam user doesnt need all the Chinese bells and whisles.

Again, I am sure I have not used trail cams as long or nearly as much as you... but the dozen or so I run each year, the White Flash cams doesnt scare or relocate the deer like the red glows! Not even a comparison there.

no opionion here from me as I have not tried one of FIREMANJIMS black-flashes...considering Jim made it, compared to a production line model crammed full of cheap Chinese parts, id still opt for a homebrew from Jim... :)

But I need as true black-flash as possible, and a camera that can be set to 15 second delay, and take 5-9 rapid-fire burst-mode pictures with every trigger, and be completely silent when doing so.

I seen some pics from a Reconyx, those rapid fire multi burst pics are awesome, and in your line of work, I can see how that would be extremely handy.

My main point is, a "typical" trail cam user wouldnt require all the neat tricks the commercial cameras offer (while they are still working) They are basically neat and serve as selling tools. If someone wants to pay the extra, thats cool, but I prefer to keep it simple and use quality products that last.

To defend myself here I must say my Blackflash video unit was field tested by 4 different people. 3 of them said they could see the faint purple glow from 2 to 3 feet away but out past that it was totally black. BSK WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT COULD SEE IT AT 12 FEET!!!

2-3 feet...less than a yard away, thats about as good as one could expect! :) ID be willing to bet its more dependable than commercail cameras....and I KNOW the warranty on FIREMANJIM's cameras cannot be beat!

Gotcha backstraps. I can live with all of your answers. I'm certainly not your "average" camera user.

And I agree, if reliability were my #1 issue, I would take one of FIREMANJIM's cameras every time over a Chinese-made camera.

And the crazy thing is, I have really lousy night vision. I can see nothing from a Reconyx HC600, yet many users say they can easily see the light from the flash. I can see nothing from a Uway NT50B, but several users claim they can.

Other than the two I've already crossed off my list, new black-flash cameras available for the 2012 model year are:

Wildview has a black-flash coming out called the X8IR. It is supposed to have 50-footblack-flash range.

Covert will have the wireless picture transfer black-flash camera "Black Ops," and a non-wireless "Black 60."

Ltl Acorn will have a black-flash model 1520, but it is only advertised as having 30-foot flash range (unacceptable).

WGI will be selling the Elite Lightsout black-flash with advertised 70-foot flash range.

Hopefully Hunten Outdoors will have all their bugs fixed in their new 52 Series black-flash cam.

Spypoint will have their new BF-7 models, one with viewing screen and one without.

Primos will have their new Truth Cam Ultra Blackout.

One I'm very interested in is the new HCO/Uway Virtual Hunter VH-200B. I like it because it supports automatic recognition of a plugged in Uway black-flash flash extender, for really being able to reach out into the dark. That combo might be the first real black-flash food plot cam.

And a new company called Big Game Treestands is bring out their Storm and BlackWidow models that are supposed to be black-flash.

But for all these new additions to the market, only time will tell if any are worth their prices.

I think I am done being the test rat. Assuming all goes to plan I'll have 3 uways working at the start of next season. I'm going to go with those and look into reviews for replacements/additionals for the following year.

Looks like an extensive list of black flash though so hopefully at least one will pan out to be decent.

Agreed. I'm still using Uway NT50Bs, but I am experiencing a high failure rate after a year or so of use.
