I posted this picture on another forum, but I thought it would go well here, too.
This is my eleven year-old son, Ian, who took his first buck on opening morning. He had taken three does over the last three seasons, but no bucks until this one.
We were hunting in Jefferson County in an area that is heavily hunted on a 90 acre parcel of land. The buck was aged by TWRA at 3.5 yrs and weighed 170 lb. live and 140 lb. field dressed.
Notice the QDMA cap Ian is sporting. I sent the picture to QDMA and they said they may try to fit it into a future issue of
Quality Whitetails.
This just proves that quality deer can be produced in areas with marginal habitat if they are given the opportunity to grow. This buck may not be that impressive for some areas, but around here it is about as good as you can hope to get.

Great buck congrats to him! QDM certainly has its advantages. I dont practice it on all properties but I do on the one where I got my 15 point.

GREAT BUCK. I DONT PRACTICE QDMA BECAUSE I HAVE 16 ACREAS AND AS LONG AS THE ROAD HUNTERS AND DOG HUNTERS ARE NEAR ME ITS A WASTE OF TIME.

That is a perfect example of a QDM buck. Keep up with it, I think you'll be surprised just how big a 3.5 yr old can get. It'll be only a matter of time before you hit one with at the top end of the gene pool.

QDMA won't work until you aren't concered wether somebody else kills it,I just shoot to my own standards and hope no one else kills it but if they do they do.A4 or 6 pt just does nothing for me any more.

Freakin Awesome!!! I give my vote for him as Poster Die hard Future Trophy Hunter!!!! That buck is really impressive! What a NecK and nice rack also!!!

Nice buck. To me and this is only my opinion, I would be a lot more prouder harvesting that buck than 3 or 4 1 or 1 1/2 year old bucks.

I couldn't agree more. That is a great QDM buck!
