Saw the Flextone "spit and drum" call. Old Eddie Salter was pimping it on a commercial during his show. Old Eddie got me hooked on a lot of calls over the years, so much that I bought that "squealing hen" piece of junk a few years ago. Wonder if this call is about the same? Thought? I'm not buying till someone here vouches for drumming bringing in old boss man! Like a gobble tube, still seems like a good way to get shot

I've given up on spending any money on non custom calls these days. For not much more you get so much more quality

I just got my Thunder Cluck N Purr in the mail today. What a worthless piece of crap. I'm beginning to think like Ren and stick with custom calls. The other main stream junk just aint panning out.

I learned a long time ago that while mass product calls will kill turkeys they really don't even compare to a good custom made call nor is the quality near that of a hand made call. When it comes to mouth calls for example the price is actually close to the exact same so its a no brainer, when it comes to pot calls the price is not actually all that far off for a decent one but you spend the money on a real quality call and it will last you for YEARS!

in recent years it seems these mass produced companys are really trying to add a bunch of total crap and really push the marketing side instead of making a call that is worth having. HS Stut use to make a very good set of calls but these days they suck about as bad as Quaker Boy and MAD.

I have noticed Flextone is mostly novelty calls or gimmicks and they don't sound very good. I picked up a $20 deer call contraption in the woods last month on public land, the one with the diamond plate design and some goofy name. The sound was marginal and it barely even made a buck grunt. The turkey calls don't seem like they are any good either.

The idea of a spit and drum call is good, especially the drumming, but I wouldn't buy anything from Flextone. Just my opinion. With name brand calls, I'd go with HS. or Primos or a step up to Woodhaven... and avoid the gimmicks

Someone will buy it.

Most of these calls are for the novices and newbies just getting into it and looking for something to shorten the learning curve. Most of us went through it as well. The companies are marketing toward them, because they know the seasoned hunters won't bite.

Other than a new mouth call or two, I haven't bought anything (shells don't count) turkey hunting related in several years.

I've known for years that mass produce calls are terrible. I was one of the Woodhaven advocators a long time ago when they first were being made in Heflin Alabama. I liked them. I said when, if ever, they start mass producing they will sound like crap.
Alot of ppl still by Woodhaven, I will never get another.

Its custom calls for me. Mouth, box, slate, tube, whatever. There are two mass produced calls that I like, which are the Lynch Fool Proof box call, which im not even sure if I consider it mass made, and the H.S. Ribgzone slate.

My favorite mouth calls are hand made by a guy, and my tied for second favorite is Legacy and Southland.

why do you think all mass produced calls are terrible? Woodhaven isn't top of the line custom calls, but they are still decent. I think you can pick and choose and some are fine while others are junk

I will be the odd ball here. I have an old lohman spit and drum call that I have used to make a hung up gobbler come in. It works but not everytime. As for flextone, everything I have ever picked up that has flextone on it has been crap. I started building my own turkey calls because all the big companies quality has went way down in recent years.

I didn't really intend this to be a Flextone sucks thread, but do other companies make a spit and drum type call I wonder. May be a secret weapon, or as I said, a good way to get shot

Yeah kinda turned into a custom vs mass thread. Again they all can kill turkeys or they wouldn't be in business

As far as the spit and drum go you can do it with you mouth with just a bit of practice

heck you can cluck and yelp with your mouth too.

Yup actually had to do it at one point the difference is a drum is a very low frequency sound anyways which makes it easier to do with you mouth. A yelp and even click are higher pitched and louder which can make them a challenge

I had a gobbler strutting at 20 yards in October because I used my voice to yelp while sneaking closer to the bird
