New to Archery hunting and new to hunting in TN

I am new to archery and am looking at starting with a xbow. I also have some girls that want to learn. So my problem is money as i have not won the lotery yet so i need to get some bows. I was looking at getting one or two cheap bows to teach the girls to see if they will like shooting. I know they love to shoot guns like thousands of rounds but they will need a lot of practice. I have found some xbows that are 150 lb that are in the $100 range will these work for training basic's also could they hunt with them? The 2nd question is I have seen some bows under 300 some are compound others are not is that matter? The last question is there any meetings that you all get together? I live in Murfreesboro and would love to talk to some experienced people. I will also be looking at info to start rifle and black powder hunting. I have not hunted for years kinda quite when they started getting too commercialized where i use to live. I noticed here you have a lot of public land to hunt so I am looking to start again.
 
There are pro's & con's on each type of crossbow. My opinion is 1st one be a recurve. Easier to shoot n learn while being less costly. Anything bought real cheap other than name brand is not what i would let my children touch! How much is a new finger an eye ? Don't let them or you shoot a crossbow with any thumb or finger above the rail deck, cause the string can cut them off! With children maybe a model that has abit of good safety features
 
Good point my kids are actually young ladies that are 16 and over but no matter what i get we will have to teach them. They did good with guns both had and rifles. I wish I would have started them earlier but work and life was a lot for me as on child has went through two rounds with brain cancer. Now i am able to start living now so want to catch up. How do you tell the safety features on a xbow? I am sorry but i am totally new to them i have never fired one of them in my life.
 
Treat them like a rifle when loaded and keep your thumb down and out of the way of the string when preparing to shoot. Read all instructions. The safety switch on mine is similar to a 30/30 with a hammer.
 
Some have features that allow fer no dryfire because it won't shoot without an arrow loaded. Recurves i am an Excal lover, its simple & has only a safety so if'en you don't use brain you can dryfire. I chocolate chip cookie push safety on before my rope cocker ever is taken from string. I have done that routine fer 14 yrs. Myself i prefer the older Vixens & E'cets. They're old n slow just like i am. As a used brand they're top notch, in fact the 2 i have were owned prior to me. My 2 newer Excals i bought new i have sold in past several yrs.
 
my barnett engages the safety when you chocolate chip cookie it you hear two clicks one is the trigger engaging the sear the other is the safety engaging.
