Welcome to the site!
I'll post back later when I get off work.

Do you live near the area?

I live in Lafayette tn I'm looking for any advise I'm new to hunting in Catoosa thank for the reply

Scout, get their early and hope people don't cover you up. Huge area ,you will need spend some time scouting and getting familiar with it. They kill some good deer but I believe there are 2000 people per hunt so it's a very low percentage that harvest legal bucks. If you have a hunt this coming weekend you should be hitting it just right. Things are picking up! Good luck

My recommendation is to download a free app like HuntStand to help you narrow your search. Once you have a few spots picked, PM me with screen shots and I will try to help you from there.

Have you got time to scout a few areas before the hunt?
Scouting helps, but the natural pattern of game always changes somewhat once all the hunters arrive.
Try to find an area that is an escape route, not easy but this is one of the best tips I can give you.
Also, make sure to have at least 3 spots in mind. This way, if you find someone's gotten to one of them first, you can back out and relocate. If you don't have a couple of backup spots you'll be screwed.

Lots of guys say hunt the open oak Savannahs, and some of them get lucky, I haven't had much luck doing that.

Finally, remember, the 'Tag before you drag' rule on Catoosa is in place. You won't check any game in online, but instead use the area checking stations.

I hope this helps!
Post back and let us know how it's going.

Here are a few recent pics from the area.

What's in or under the tree?
I had a mock scrape dripper hanging up there. Key word 'had'. It's gone now, seemed to work pretty well at first, nice buck showed up on the 2nd night.

Then the bears started frequenting the area and the deer seemed to disappear.

I had the Oct 27, 28, 29 muzzleloader hunt. There were 0 deer pictures from Oct 22 thru Oct 31. I'm serious. Struck out swinging though,.lol.

Try making a mock using cut grapevines and just clearing ground. It is amazing how they find those things.

YouTube mock scrapes....cheaper

Will do.
I picked up 5 dripper kits on sale after season last year for $5 each.
I think they're usually $20 each.

I killed a dandy 11 point up there a couple years ago. I've found that deer pattern the hunters, trucks, 4x4s, anything that isn't normal. The place only gets hunted a handful of times every year so they definitely know what's up. I like to hunt not too far from a main road and find a place where I can see multiple ridges with funnels. Honeysuckle and privet draw a lot of deer. The big boys like the laurels too. My theory is if they stay near a road, they can keep up with where the trucks/hunters are. I never go in more than 150-200 yards and have seen a ton of deer there. I have seen one bear there and one at nearby Keyes Harrison WMA. Lot of hogs there too. Never had but one shot opportunity though. Good luck. I'm going to Catoosa the next two days and plan to stay in ALL DAY. Killed my big one at 2 in the afternoon.

Well not many posted back on how their hunt went.
What did everyone see for the rifle hunt?

Seen a good one but couldn't close the deal. I haven't closed the deal at catoosa last couple years. But I've got muzzleloader starting Thursday so we'll see if I can or at least hope to have an opportunity again to try and pull it together. There were a ton of good ones shot on the rifle hunt though.
