ive not turkey hunted much and have a friend whose never hunted that has been getting geard up. question is, is a blind necessary or will he be ok on the ground?
He should be fine on the ground. Blinds are sort of a two edged sword. They're great for concealment, but once you commit to a blind, mobility becomes an issue. There are times though when a blind fits the bill. I'll be in one opening day with my bow in hand!
Buy a good pair of hand pruners for later in the season and cut some small limbs. Stick them in the ground in front of you so it will break up your outline and kinda hide you a little bit better. Alot easier to carry that a blind. You can use them now if you hunt where there is some evergreens.
