Ok, after many years of deer hunting I have decided to go after Mr. Turkey and see if I can harvest one of the fine animals. Will a Mossberg 500 be enough to hunt with as I don't want to spend an arm and a leg starting out. What about shells, I plan on shootin 3 inch shells but what load weight? I will be hunting east Hardeman county at Big Buck resort and I know they have several parcels of land with one being in Carrol county. Are there any Turkeys in that county?

I used to shoot the 535 its basically the same as the 500. I had good luck with the truglo strut stopper xtream choke and winchester extended range #6.

A mossberg 500 will get it done. I had a buddy that shot the 3" winchester # 6's with a kicks choke and has killed a boatload of turkeys with that set up.

My litter brother, from the time he was 9 till he was 16, used a Mossberg 500 20 gauge with the cheap undertaker choke tube from wal-mart and shot 3" 5 shot federal shells in it. He killed a bunch of longbeards with that little gun ranging from 10 yards to 45 yards.

I had a 535 once. Tried a lot of different set ups with it and couldn't get it to pattern worth a crap. It was a nice gun, thumbhole in the stock, pretty cammo pattern. But I sold it and went back to my old 835. I am glad I did.

Welcome to the most addictive thing I know
next to well never mind
Your 500 will be fine just make sure to pattern it from 10yrds out to 40 with whatever choke/shell combo you choose
Have fun and good luck
