I am not a huge turkey hunter because of spring time fishing but usually get a few hunts in and kill my share for the time I hunt. I was beginning to wonder if I would go turkeyless this year as I've heard very few.
This was a blitz hunt. I got on this turkey at 6:00 Friday morning. He was lonely and gobbling. I got set up on him, made a soft call, and he gobbled about 80 yards away. I waited a few mins and hit him again and got another response so I went silent. In just a few mins, I was pretty sure that I could hear him spitting and drumming. A crow flew over, and he about blew my hat off just out of sight. I knew he was coming and could then definitely hear him spitting and drumming. I then saw him easing to me looking for romance. Instead, he got a face full of #6 longbeards at 30 yards. He dropped and never flopped. I had my foot on his head at 6:25. 25 mins from the time I heard him til making a move to set up til having them on the ground.
Tale of the tape.
20.75 lbs
10" super thick beard
1 3/8" and 1 1/2" spurs
