Cool hunt today. I finally drug myself out of bed to hunt one morning. Glad I did. Hit the woods at 6 and was set up by 6:30. Had one bird gobble on the ridge next to me and then had 3 gobble just below me. I set tight until I heard a hen fly down. I cut hard and the gobbling began. I was sitting on a point and they would not come up the hill. They gobbled until 8 and moved off to a field way below my point. I laid back and thought great time for a little nap. While I was napping off and on I would hear a bird gobble way off on another point so I would hit the box call a little and he would respond but seemed to be heading to the field like the rest. About 9:15 I was out when I heard a bird gobble off over the hill to my left. I sat up and went to work. Box call and mouth call. He was hot but stayed below the hill and headed down toward the field. I thought maybe a slate call a little purring and cutting might do the trick.. Man I was right. He hammered it hard and in 30 mins I was watching him spitting and drumming for my little hen decoy. The Benelli went boom and he went flop. What a morning. Everytime I purred or hard cut he would tare the woods down. Here is the tape:
21 lbs
10 in beard
1 in spurs.
