I don't have any idea about TN other than 3 weekends ago when I came up. birds were gobbling in winter flocks then.
I will say this however... I've most certainly noticed here in MS a lack of gobbling off the roost this year... UNLESS you are within 125 yds or so. Birds that I know heard me and refused to talk back when I was 250-300 yds away have been hammering back once I get to within 100-125 yards.
It has been more important than ever to just put as many miles on the boots as possible, calling softly every 50 yards, till you strike a bird that is close.
I've not heard a single bird free gobble off the roost in the mornings yet, and have only had one instance where a bird answered my calls that was further than 125 yards away. But once you get them fired up, they have been nonstop gobbling working to the call.
