I shoot a Mathews Legacy I bought in 2002. It currently has winner's choice strings and cables that I put on 2 years ago that have seen fairly light use and are not worn. I was over seas most of the last year and just got back to shoot my bow 10 days ago. Everything seemed kosher. This morning I put on a new sight....axcel armourtech hd....and about 20 arrows later I started noticing a funny sound. Sort of like a subtleclank. It seems to come from the upper bow I'm not sure. It is not consistent and varies among shots. Another guy at the range noticed it and said something wihout my prompting.

I checked my bow carefully and nothing is loose, on the bow or the new sight.

When I list carefully I hear a very sublte click crack coming from the upper limb as I draw back. This sound is also not consistent.

What's going on? Is this something I really need to be concerned about, as there is not anything obviously wrong upon inspection?

Thanks.

I would take it to a local proshop . It's too hard to diagnose a problem like that over the internet . I would have to check it out in person.

Take a look at the top wheel on your bow. On either side of the axle that goes through the wheel there are 2 black plastic pieces that lock the axle in place called QCC's. These are notorious for making a clicking noise while drawing your bow back after they have seen several shots. If you have a press you can fix it. If not, take it to a shop that has one. After the limbs are relaxed, take the cable off the 2 qcc's and pop the the QCC's off. This can be done with a screwdriver and they are very easy to take off. There is a tiny ridge on the inside of them that rests against the limb and if you gently sand those down with a fine grit sandpaper & put them back on it will take care of your clicking noise.

Yep, probably the culprit.

Turns out it was my new armourtech HD sight....took the sight off, no more noise. I went through and tighted the screws which helped, not sure if problem is solved though. I'll see how it sounds over the next few days.

Sounds like it's coming from the sight, but if you fix that and continue to hear a click or pop when you draw it, get it to a Mathews dealer quick. Had another one doing the same thing a couple of weeks ago, and it finally let go. Not pretty. It's rare to see a Mathews limb fail, but when they do they usually delaminate and it was more common on the Legacy's, Outboacks, etc. Any of the older bows with the brown camo. Also check your poundage. If it seems unusually low compared to your normal weight, then a limb is getting weak and that creates a dangerous situation. Get it checked soon, or better yet if you are the original owner have it replaced. Warranty will cover it.
