North Carolina lookng at increasing poaching fines

I wish poachers would face fines into the $1000's and maybe some jail time even. That would really put the fear into them and make the benefits not be worth the risks of getting caught. They are finding that out from the elephant poaching in Africa.

You have to find a judge who is willing to impose a strict penalty, even if it can be...

Make the law written as such that the judge must impose the penalty

But then you deal with mistake kills, ect.

Not sure how to handle that.

I agree with fines in the thousands, but jail should be reserved for people who hurt people

Back in 2015 or so, TN passed a law that "authorizes" a $1,000 fine per poached animal considered big game, which includes deer, bear, elk and turkey. Key word "authorizes". Whether it is handed down in the courtroom is a different story.
