north cumberland wma

just curious if anybody hunts this wma?!... I'm a grouse hunter and have wanted to scout this area out.... just wandering what the terrain is like ... are there any clear cuts.... ant help,would be appreciated

I've hunted on the Gobey side and a little bit on the actual North Cumberland - there are clear cuts and strip mines- pretty rough terrain, but I seen several grouse while deer hunting - even had one in spring that wouldn't quit strutting in front of the truck tire

yea I hunt it a lot, like DKO77 said, a lot of clear cuts and strip mines. and saying it it rough is an understatement. I suggest if you scout it out wait until fall. A lot of big and I mean big Rattle snake up there. Good luck and hunting

15 years ago, you couldn't move up there without jumping grouse. I haven't seen near as many birds the last couple of years. There are still some up there though.

I always liked the area across from the coal wash off of New River Hwy.
