never heard the first gobble this morning. we saw 4 hens and 2 toms fly down, the hens did a little talking but the toms never made a sound. 2 of the hens passed within 20 yds but the toms must have gone the other way.

Yep been tough. We missed the best hunting here.

i think the cold front shut them up. they were hammering last weekend. i think the best hunting is still to come.

I passed on a jake first thing monday, my first day to hunt. I commented that the next legal bird might not be so lucky. He wasn't. Hunted yesterday and saw nada, well other than the three year old in the back of my truck that my son killed. This morning nary a peep, but two jakes walked by at a quarter til nine, and I let them pass. Would you believe they came back by going the opposite direction. A man can only be tempted for so long!

I didn't get out this morning but they were gobbling yesterday afternoon good. We didn't get setup till 3:00 and right after I cut we had 2 cut me off from different directions. Than a atv ran them birds off or at least shut them up. While debating what to do the first time turkey hunter I was taking said don't move he's right there. Sneaky bird came in from behind without making a peep. He put on a good show for the young hunter strutting all around the decoy. After I thought the boy seen all he could handle he busted him a 23lb Tom. His first turkey hunt. He was ecstatic to say the least!

They(the Toms) were hammering it on the Fort this morning. On the roost and on the ground for a good 2 hours. I had a group of 3 toms and 2 groups of 2s that I got on but just couldn't get them in close enough or they came in from my right side and busted me. Sure was a fun day regardless!!! Congrats on the bird Hollar Hunter.

They havent hammered here since three weeks ago.

i had not heard any gobbling until the friday before the opener.

I think we missed the best of season where I hunt birds just aren't gobbling like they were a month ago.

totally different this morning. we had 3 birds gobbling on the roost within 50 yds. i think our huge flock from last weekend has broken up and dispersed but there were still 8-12 birds around us. we only got a glipse of a head pop up but no shot as we didn't see a beard.
