Went this morning to one of my spots I haven't hunted yet. Got on a ridge top/acorn flat about 100yards from 2 birds gobbling on the roost. They sounded off 50-75 times. I let out some soft calls. First bird flew down into the valley below at 6:20. Second bird flew straight down at 6:50 and headed down the ridge in the opposite direction. I was going to pursue him but got pinned down by 3 jakes and what were either 2 hens or 2 more jakes.
I had to leave for work but I hit the valley before I left and called up a jake. Going back in the morning. I am contemplating setting up in the valley to try to catch them flying down. May put out a decoy. I was disappointed they didn't come my way off the roost...my calling must not have enticed them.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
