What are some things I can do to keep it new longer? When I first bought my bow a couple years back, I just jerked it out of the box and started flinging arrows. I probably shot 100 arrows before waxing the string.
I noticed rapid wear of my string, and I really started trying to take care of it after it was too late.
I removed a burr from my cam before installing the new string. I guess I got it from a slight bump or something. I know this will help with wear.
How often should I wax? Is one wax better than another?
I just dont want to spend $72.00 again next year if I can help it.

Wax. Wax. Wax. I wax liberaly and then take a peice of paper and then rub the string to creat a litte heat. That works into the string better. I usually wax mine when I first start to see small hairs sticking off the string.

I asked about over waxing strings on Archery Talk and had several responses stating it won't hurt, but it can weigh the string down if it accumulates. I tried waxing after every session but stopped since excess wax was gunking up on my strings. I use a piece of leather and rub it in real good, but I found waxing every session was a little excessive.

If you want to do that make sure you rub it in extremely good to get it good and deep, make the wax warm. When you have excess just I will wrap thread around the string and drag it down the string scraping excess left over off. Then jsut LIGHTLY give it an outside coat.

A small piece of leather will work better than paper. Just a FYI for all!

Not a bad idea thanks. UT grad and JK

Is one wax better than another? I know the stuff I have is thick and almost crumbly. Would a wax with more of an oil consistency work better?

I don't know if this works. But I've got a friend that's all about bow hunting... He uses Pam cooking spray. coats the string with it.. then does the normal textile wax. then rubs it all in. Sounds dumb to me. But he knows his stuff.

yes, it can make your string heavy and slow. Also can gunk up cams and string bracket. Not big deals but makes a difference.

Dont wax any serving and remove excess wax with a piece of floss wrapped around the string...you will be suprised how much comes off.

I was about every 3-4 times I shoot...but I wax with my fingers really lightly to keep from getting too much on.

Do this and your string should last 3 years or so easy.

I get a blister on my index finger every time I wax my strings. I cut a piece of leather chamois I have in the garage for drying the car after washing. I use the silicone based Bohning wax and rub it till it is real hot. That wax melts into the string. My finger gets real hot as well!
