I have seen several folks off-setting vanes up the shaft(toward the field tip). I fletched some to see what difference it would make. They seem to fly better in the wind, but drop quite a bit(out past 25yds) more than the same weight arrow only fletched normally.

So what's the point. Looks pretty neat.

Bob I have played with this technique some. I cannot find a significant advantage. I have friends who swear by it. So I would recommend try some arrows fletched both ways and make your own determination.

used for fixed broadheads to keep from planing. i was using 4 or 7 degree offset(cant remember), but now use helical. it does affect speed and may be a little noisier, but is as consistent as my field points.

the degree of offset is not what I am refering to. I'll try to post a pic if I can. All my vanes have a 3degree off-set, but I am talking about the distance from the end of the arrow. I'll see if I can find a link with a pic of what I am talking about.

Yeah! I got you, that's what I was talking about also. I set my first vane almost with the back of the vane almost even with the front of the other and the third in the middle. I used Bohning Blazers. I couldn't really tell an advantage. Like I said though I have some friends who swear by this configuration.

ok i see now. i was at wal-mart looking at the mags and a bowhunting mag had an article on this subject, "10 tips for better grouping". some guy from bowtech and gold tip did some tests on this and they said it helped in long range broadhead grouping. they offset them 1/8", and they did say that they though that it created more drag and spin and lengthened the effective vane length.
