Got on a bird this morning. Textbook, called and he gobbled, then gobbled some more. He was closing the distance at a pretty good rate. Saw some hens coming that passed by about 30 yards in front of me. I could hear him drumming and bringing up the rear. Then there he was in all his glory, strutting and putting on a big show. I clucked and he came closer, at about 15 yds. with him in full strut I decided I better go on and end this. The next time he stretched his head up I squeezed the trigger...... SILENCE! Somehow the firing pin was not set, sure wish I would of had a pump this morning. Never had this happen before. I sat there as he eased off. He went over a rise and gobbled again. I tried to get back around on him but the property line stopped me. Guess this just means I get to hunt him another day, I still feel like the hunt was successful. I did get to ease around and shoot him with my phone. I tried, but he wasn't leaving the ladies.

Wow that sucks man. Sounds like a good hunt though.

I had a buddy hunting with me one morning and we called two longbeards in together.

We counted and both shot.
I killed, his gun clicked.

It was the first time he had fired the gun that year and I guess the oil had gotten sticky on his firing pin and held it back just enough to keep the primer from going off.

He reached up and was able to cycle another shell and kill his bird. :D

Wasn't his time I reckon. Did you figure out the problem? Was it a semiauto?
Yes semi auto, it was my fault after I got thinking about it. It's got a magazine catch that if you don't trip it it won't load the next shell to the chamber or recock the firing pin, I forgot to hit it when I dropped a shell in the chamber. I've killed 2 with my Browning this year and just decided to take a different gun this morning.

What kind of semi-auto? Is it a benelli/franchi/stoeger? I know of a couple of turkeys who have lived this year because shooters didn't have the bolt in battery on Benelli guns.

No, not a Benelli. I bought it as a back up gun a couple years ago. It's a Baikal MP 153, it's a cheap 3.5 auto. I read lots of reviews on them and they were good. It was my fault, but don't make me feel any better. I killed 2 with it last year with no problem. I know if I carry it again that there's going to be doubt in my mind if it will go off. Should of just picked up the old Browning, she's never let me down.

I pulled the trigger on one once and nothing happened. I looked down and the bolt was locked open. Never loaded it. Talk about feeling stupid. Yours doesn't sound near as bad as that. But still frustrating I understand.

That's what I use for my duck gun they are pretty solid performers for the price.
